A Crown is also referred as ‘Cap’ used to entirely cover a damaged tooth in the mouth. Crown fabrication done not only to strengthen a damaged tooth, also to improve tooth’s appearance, shape & alignment. Crowns are usually made of materials like:
- Porcelain (Ceramic) Crowns,
- Non precious metal alloys (Metal crowns) or combinations such as Porcelain fused to metal (PFM) & Porcelain Fused to Gold (PFG)
- Precious Metal crowns (Gold)

A dental crown may be the best option for a tooth that has had such significant decay that a filling may not be an adequate means to strengthen the tooth. Crown procedure normally precedes root canal treatment; in order to restore the strength and integrity of the tooth. A dental crown is also a good choice for a tooth that has chipped or broken and must be restored.
A crown procedure usually requires two or three appointments.
At your first appointment - The tooth is reduced in size to accommodate a crown. An impression is taken of the prepared tooth. The impression is sent to the dental laboratory, where dental technician will carry out the fabrication as per dentist’s instructions. A temporary crown is applied which will stay on your tooth till final crown is placed.
At your second appointment- the temporary crown is removed and permanent crown is cemented or trial procedure done to get precision fit.
Finally once the crown cemented, you will be given post operative instructions and encouraged to have regular dental visits to check your new crown. On an average, dental crowns last between 5 and 15 years. The life span of a crown depends on the amount of "wear and tear" the crown is exposed to and how well you follow good oral hygiene.
Bridges are natural-looking dental appliances that can replace a section of missing teeth. Because they are custom-made, bridges are barely noticeable and can restore the natural contour of teeth as well as the proper bite relationship between upper and lower teeth.
Bridges are commonly used to replace one or more missing teeth. Bridges are cemented to the natural teeth or implants surrounding the empty space. These teeth, called abutments, serve as anchors for the bridge

Bridges are made of materials like,
- Porcelain,
- Precious metal (gold) and
- Non precious metal alloys or combinations (PFM: Porcelain Fused to Metal, PFG: Porcelain Fused to Gold) of materials.
